Cyanotype is a historic photographic printing process, invented by Sir John Herschel in 1842, known for producing cyan-blue prints using ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide. The process involves coating a surface with the light-sensitive solution, exposing it to UV light with objects or negatives, and then rinsing it in water to reveal the image. Initially used for scientific purposes and popularized artistically by Anna Atkins, cyanotype remains a beloved technique for its simplicity and distinctive aesthetic. Today, it enjoys renewed interest among contemporary artists and photographers like me for its unique, hands-on appeal.
